Erick Kabendera: The Confessions of An Errand Boy

Today, along side other senior media practitioner in Nairobi, we set out, at a local restaurant, to un wind and share a myriad of discussions on unguided topics; from global sports, Kenyan politics to regional flashing news. We finally settled into an article titled “No Justice for Tanzanian journalist freed after seven months in jail” publish by the UK Guardian Online. The article is about a Tanzanian investigative journalist Erick Kabendera who has been set free after spending seven months in remand prison. Kabendera was set free after he confessed to the charges of money laundering, tax evasion and other related offences. To my personal and a couple of others surprise, the Guardian's article offered no critical analysis of the case and facts on the ground. Instead, the article written by one Kate Hodal claims that Kabendera has been released from prison after pleading guilty to charges "widely considered as politically

US Ambassador To Tanzania Accused of Violating Diplomatic Human Rights

In what constitutes political meddling, Acting US Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Inmi Patterson is accused of involving in local issues including holding secret meetings with members of the opposition party, ACT-Wazalendo in Zanzibar on Friday. Reliable sources from within ACT –Wazalendo confirmed that Dr Patterson met with Seif Shariff Hamad on Friday night where they discussed political issues, specifically the upcoming general election slated for October, this year. The meeting took place at Seif Shariff Hamad residence at Chukwani area in Urban West region from 7:00pm to 7:45pm. The talks, according to our sources, centered on ACT-Wazalendo's preparedness for the next general election. Kenyans Prepare for Moi's Grand Burial

By Staff Writer, NAIROBI.  Kenyans are queuing up to view the body of the country's longest-serving president, Daniel arap Moi, as it lies in state in the capital, Nairobi. Mr Moi, who led the country from 1978 to 2002, died on Tuesday at 95. Speaking before the body was taken through Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta called him an "iconic leader". But he had a mixed legacy. Critics saw him as an authoritarian ruler, while allies credited him for maintaining stability.
