Magufuli Launches Africa's Fourth Biggest Hydropower Project

President Magufuli with other former Tanzanian Presidents _Staff Writers, Dar and Cairo_ President John Magufuli of Tanzania on Friday 26th July, 2019 writes another history by launching the construction of the fourth biggest hydro dam in Africa and the biggest in East Africa. The 2,115 megawatts Rufiju Hydropower project to be officiated marks the fulfilment of the dream of the country's late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. The project which is financed by taxpayers’ money at the cost of tsh 6.5 trillion ($ 3 billion) is expected to be completed by 2022. Tanzania Least Indebted Country by China in EAC Region

By Staff Writer, Nairobi Barrowing and expenditure prudence under President John Magufuli of Tanzania has the country; East Africa’s fastest growing economy to be ranked the least indebted country by China among her regional peers.  The 2019 Ifw Institute for the World Economy report released this week has ranked Tanzania the 43 rd less indebted country by China in Africa. Kenya and Uganda have been ranked the 25 th and 33 rd among 50 countries respectively. According to the report Djibouti is the highly indebted country by China among all the 50 world countries.       The report covers a total of 1,974 Chinese loans and 2, 947 Chinese grants to 152 merging or developing countries from 1949 to 2017. The data is granular and was gathered from a variety of sources including international treaties, debt contracts, policy reports, as well as the work of academics such as the AidData team. By John Njoroje, Nairobi President John Magufuli’s high strides and performance has made Tanzania to scoop the first position in Africa against corruption in two different categories, the findings from 2019 Transparency International and Afro- Barometer report has revealed. The survey conducted among 47,000 people between September 2017 and September 2018 in 35 African countries using face to face nationality representative interviews found that about 70 percent of Tanzanians were satisfied with measures taken by the government to tackle corruption in the country.Tanzania scooped highest trust that its 34 other peers. The main question asked in the survey was:  What did people think about the state of corruption in their country – how prevalent it is, whether it is rising or declining and whether their government is doing enough to control it.
