By Staff Writer, Tanzania24

Dar es Salaam, September  27, 2017:

Life is busy once again in down town Manhattan, New York as the 72nd Session of the United Nations’ General Assembly continues with its proceedings. On the sidelines of the UN meetings, the ongoing reforms taking place in Tanzania, East Africa under reform minded President Dr. John Pombe Magufuli dominate talks among delegates and officials from various countries and international organizations whenever opportunity to meet the Tanzanian team comes up.

Speaking from New York, United States, where he is representing President Magufuli at the annual UN General Assembly, the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Augustine Mahiga said many delegates at the UN environs were talking about the way President Magufuli is leading the country towards prosperity.

“Here at the United Nations headquarters in New York, I have met delegates from Africa, Asia, Europe and America; they all talk about our President and expressed their willingness to invite him to visit their countries to exchange experiences” Dr. Mahiga said.

He added that most delegates he has met were surprised on how President Magufuli has managed to undertake tremendous changes in a very short period and they see him as “brave and visionary leader” who is committed to no other struggle than to serve his people.

A statement from the Tanzanian Chief Spokesperson, Dr. Hassan Abbasi released on Wednesday further quoted Minister Mahiga that since his arrival, his delegations has been busy meeting delegates from various countries and international institutions; this time the Tanzanian delegates being even small-effect of Magufuli’s expenditure cuts.

“As we are talking, apart from addressing the UN General Assembly, I have already met about 25 delegations and I hopefully expect to meet more delegations up to 35 in the course of this week,” explained Ambassador Dr. Mahiga.

Furthermore, Dr. Mahiga noted that delegates are also impressed by Magufuli’s walk-the=talk style by sending a small delegation to the assembly unlike other countries. Tanzanian delegation, he said is comprised of only 4 members from his ministry including himself but also joined with Tanzania ambassador to UN ambassador.

He said that the international media have been closely following up on the size of delegations particularly from developing countries attending the General Assembly. “Many international journalists have also been impressed by the size of the 4 people Tanzania delegation to the UN and were satisfied with the way our government is spending its taxpayers’ money.”

The Foreign Minister added that this year Tanzania has made history by sending the smallest delegation to the General Assembly compared to previous years where delegation to the United Conferences had members ranging between 40 to 100 people. He revealed that despite its size, this year’ delegation was effectively and efficiently performing its tasks.

Magufuli did not attend the UN Meeting this September in New York; instead, he chose to visit his people in the Northern Region of Arusha where he addressed a number of public rallies to reinvigorate his vision for change.

Addressing the Assembly on behalf of President Magufuli, apart from conveying the President’s special message to the UN, Dr. Mahiga briefed delegates on the various ongoing reforms taking place in the country including the fight against corruption and enhancing accountability in the government.

He also reiterated the readiness and willingness of the government of United Republic of Tanzania to continue working closely with United Nations for the interest and benefit of the world.
