The wise saying goes, don't wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.
This is what I can only say with regards to a disgraceful article I just read that was published by the Daily Maverick. I advise the Editor to exercise the duty of truthfulness despite the right to free speech.
The demands on how Tanzania handled corona virus were one sided and seriously lacked objectivity, therefore, truth was thrown in the trash bin. The article written by a Tanzanian opposition politician deserves not in any reference list but in a smelliest trash. Just there because it is hugely misleading and misinforming.
If the Tanzanian leader John Magufuli’s handling of corona virus was an epitome of incompetence as the article claimed, what makes the COVID 19 cases decline steadily in Tanzania? Despite its largest population size in East Africa, Tanzania had fewer cases.
We all know of Dr. Magufuli’s record since he was a Minister. He is never incompetent. As a competent mathematics teacher. Magufuli was also a Chemist for several years. These facts are everywhere. Zitto just decided to suppress them for his own benefit. Not in this world.
Medics Association Recognizes Magufuli for Leadership in Corona virus Pandemic
One embassy in Tanzania was misinformed that the hospitals out there were overwhelmed with COVID 19 patients. It was Malicious. In fact, I read on the online Tanzania Guardian of 28 May, 2020 that the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT), which is a professional body, conducting a study on how traditional medicines contributed to the reduction of COVID 19 cases in the country.
MAT confirmed that a number of COVID 19 patients has declined. They commended President John Magufuli’s response to the corona virus outbreak. Remember, these are the very people who were handling the patients in hospitals and this was their testimony to the world.
“MAT would like to express its gratitude to President John Magufuli for his good guidance during this testing time when the whole world battles the novel virus,” MAT’s President, Dr. Elisha Osati is reported telling the media in Dar es Salaam recently.
MAT statement comes just days after Dr. Magufuli and his Prime Minister provided an account of empty hospital beds as a result of recovering COVID 19 patients. The hospitals referred were those dedicated for COVID 19 cases. The President account was supported by the statement issued by the Medics Association, on the recovery rate and a limited number of new infections.
This was good news for the world, not only to Tanzania or Africa. It is only a thick head like Zitto’s as his name goes (heavy for slow learner) who could find it hard to comprehend such straight forward and plain facts.
China is one of the leading nations with a long history of traditional medicine. Madagascar and many other countries recognize and apply traditional medicines, which mostly comes from herbs. Between 1982 and 2008, at least 70 per cent of medicines in the US came from herbs. This author, Zitto Kabwe must be numb.
SADC Set to Re-open Cross Border Trade
Look, I read on the online Tanzania’s Citizen, again of 28 May, 2020, the SADC member states have agreed to reopen cross-border trade after the experts were satisfied with precautionary measures taken by the block’s 16 countries, including Tanzania.
Tanzania is an influential member of the block. If the handling was incompetent, I am not sure if the member states would have endorsed re-opening of cross-border trade with Tanzania.
The world applauds and truly respects this scientist President we have high regard of him and truly value for his no-nonsense leadership for Africa’s development. South Africa is reopening too, from June, 2020.
Magufuli has Pioneered Many Reforms
In the Universities with African studies, Dr. Magufuli is a model on how he brought back efficiency in Tanzania where efficient collection of tax goes to finance delivery of social services and the achievements are enormous.
Barrick, one of the leading Mining Companies in the world, this week paid Tanzania $100 million as part of the agreement in a new mining law which will see a 50/50 sharing of the proceeds. Most African countries with mining pacts, copied the Tanzanian model. This can never be incompetence. Dr. Magufuli has pioneered many reforms which were being copied by other African countries. This incompetence is unique to Zitto as his names sounds but not to all other human beings with reasonable minds.
The world is very small these days. We most of the things happening in Tanzania. Just remember how Stephen John Sackur dismissed irresponsible and unreasonable claims leveled by Tundu on Magufuli. It happened because all the facts on outstanding performance of President Magufuli were on the finger tips, thanks to the technology.
I dismiss Zitto’s claims as unreasonable, childish, senseless and sickening. This only exposes Zitto as fluid, controversial and allegedly corrupt politician who digs the grace to burry his own reputation from across the world.
In Britain, we all know the shameful resignation of Prof Neil Ferguson (51). We are infuriated by the ill advise he gave to our Prime Minister, scaring him of herd immunity and opted for a killer lockdown. We still morn the dead.
This unreasonable selfish politician brings up the humiliating demands of “lockdown” in a country that provides a model in handling the coronavirus pandemic so well and emerge victorious. I am mobilizing resources to travel to Tanzania to write this case for my doctoral study. I am enraged. As we all demand re-opening, this “senseless” story is total madness and wouldn’t have been published by a UK firm.
Only a paralytic of sense can persist and succumb to fear and advocate a lockdown when in fact, the countries which fell prey to lockdowns were, unfortunately, the ones hit hard by corona virus pandemic.
However, I would be dismayed if this came from a respected, ethical and trusted politician but not this guy, Kabwe, who walks with a price tag on his sleeves. He can advocate for any “brainless Moron” as long as you arrive at his price. Poor Africa.
I could as well ignore it as he enjoys the dirty games but innocent readers would believe his malicious project. I, personally, see Tanzania as a lead nation with Dr. Magufuli as a model of leadership in Africa. This is a project to tarnish and shoot down his rising star. Sometimes politics can be that evil, at least not from an African.
Tanzania’s Model Healed the Country and is Being Copied
It is shocking. It is horrific. When the whole world appreciates the Tanzanian leader, John Magufuli for the applauded leadership that exposed the dirty games in COVID 19 test kits by WHO and Africa CDC, making his people resilient in preventing themselves from the pandemic, Zitto Kabwe’s article was a self-curse.
Today, many countries approved of the Tanzanian model. The President led his country to focus on preventive medicine rather than locking down. Those tested positive for COVID 19, received treatment and many of them continue to recover and go back to continue with their economic activities.
The people responded positively to the directives provided by the scientists. They practiced social distancing, washed their hands with soap, wearing masks, changing their lifestyles, improved their nutrition and approved science agencies to research on assorted traditional medicines. Tanzania is EA top most nation to abide by coronavirus precautionary measures.
The President called for national wide prayers. When the COVID 19 patients healed and new infections were greatly reduced, the President called for three days of thanksgiving prayers. It was both walking by faith and by sight (science). What is wrong with this? Americans did it too.
Over 75 per cent of the Tanzanians, much like most other Sub Saharan countries are living off small scale agriculture and hand-to-mouth petty businesses. Dr. Magufuli was pitiful of this status quo. He developed a model that could lessen the catastrophe. It worked.
“It is because of simply copying, as Zitto Kabwe contends, Professor Neil Ferguson, who advised the UK Government to lockdown, was unable to keep the rules himself by meeting his marriedlover while in self-isolation,” reported the UK’s Daily Telegraph.
I must admit, this young corrupt Tanzanian politician is dangerously thick. As he curses the admirable model of Dr. Magufuli on the pandemic, we think highly of, and hype those locked downs, he should ask why Prof. Ferguson has his science lost touch and respect for the Britons.
The Professor succeeded to kill Britons by trading on fear. He frightened the British Prime Minister with his apocalyptic prediction that corona virus could kill 500,000 Britons, if he did not lockdown, which made Boris Johnson to decide to lock down the country. Today, UK is regretting locking down which Zitto Kabwe cries a bucket for . Deaths came with the lockdown and fear than the disease itself.
“And this stupid Tanzanian opposition politician can not learn from this awkward experience of the horrible results of lockdown? Shame for the opposition in Africa, this is pain in the neck,” says my friend Gwendolyn Williams of Cardiff.
Mr. Johnson has been betrayed by the scientist he trusted. He did not know that his college, Imperial College London received over $280million from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for creating computer models which predicted and miscalculated the spread, impact and death rate of the pandemic.
It gets tens of millions of dollars in annual funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and works with the UK National Health Service, the US Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), and is tasked with supplying the World Health Organization with "rapid analysis of urgent infectious disease problems."
What was the result? Herd immunity Vs Lockdown?
Zitto blames the Tanzanian leader, claiming he opted for herd immunity or community immunity. He protests it vehemently. Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister had suggested it might be a good way to stop or control the spread of the new corona virus, which causes COVID-19. He was right.
Ferguson and his team, then warned Boris Johnson that the quest for "herd immunity" could cost 510,000 lives, prompting an abrupt U-turn. This ill-advise by Ferguson, has cost Britain dearly.
According the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Kingdom has 265,000 cases with 37,048 deaths thus far. The UK is among the top ten countries most hit by the virus with the USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, China, France, Iran, Switzerland and Turkey.
Kenya, Tanzania’s neighbor, whose President Uhuru Kenyatta, announced to re-open his country on 1 June, 2020, to save his nation’s economy. The Kenyan government had to sign for IMF corona virus response loan to manage her payroll.
As many countries continue to re-open, Tanzania’s economy continued to remain stable, large scale investments have not been affected, salaries are paid on time unlike her neighbors which opted for Prof. Ferguson’s advise and decided to lockdown. It is the question of leadership.
Zitto Kabwe is but a puppet. He is a corrupt politician who can be used to say anything as long as you arrive at his price.
The world regrets locking down. Everyone focuses on re-opening. Japan did not lock down. It announced easing the state of emergency. South Africa announced easing the restrictions and will re-open in June. Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis opens his country for tourists in June. Italy, Spain, Czech and Ukraine were easing the restrictions. Everyone focuses on re-opening.
I read in one book, Tanzania’s founding President Julius Nyerere reprimanding African leaders who are fond of copying everything before developing the capacity to research and find out what is the best for them.
Prof. Lockdown and Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction
The media nicknames Prof. Ferguson as Prof. Lockdown. This befits Zitto as Mr. Lockdown. Right, Prof. Ferguson’s threats to Boris are likened to the Iraq war, prompted by the weapons of mass destruction which were not found anywhere in Iraq. This is where Zitto belongs. He tries piggish to ruin a successful case of leadership the Tanzanian leader is unleashing to the rest of the world.
