Magufuli’s Economics, Anti-Graft War Delights the World Bank

The World Bank (WB) has expressed its content with the way Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli manages the economy and his pursuit of anti graft war.

The Bank has now agreed to release a total of 300 million USD for implementation of education projects aimed at improving education standards through construction of classrooms, hostels, and quarters for civil servants and teaching aids.

The Bank’s Vice President for Africa, Dr. Hafez Ghanem, who met President Magufuli at Dar es Salaam State House on Friday, commended the President for his economic reforms that have seen the Tanzanian economy maintaining positive acceleration.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) just released economic outlook report for 2018, places Tanzania’s GDP growth at second place after Ethiopia in the Eastern Africa Region with Tanzania leading the East Africa sub-region.

Dr. Ghanem was also pleased by the President’s unrivalled success and approach in combating corruption and embezzlement in public service. He has formed the special court to prosecute special corruption and economic crimes cases that have seen reduced graft practices in the world’s 9th fastest growing economy.
 
 “We are very proud of our partneship with Tanzania, and with the good results that have been achieved, in terms of economic growth, good results in  fighting  corruption and improving public services,” said Dr. Ghanem.
 He reaffirmed the Bank’s continued focus on supporting Tanzania’s social sectors and infrastractural projects.
 
Speaking after the meeting, President Magufuli thanked the Bank for its good relations with  Tanzania, and promised  that his goverment would continue with the same spirit, including ensuring that all the funds provided for by the Bank are prudently used for stipulated projects.
“Thank you Dr. Hafez Ghanem and the World Bank  for providing these funds to support our education endavour. The USD 300 million packgage will really boost the standard of our education and is a good addition to the efforts that are already underway to reform our education system,” he said.
 
The Magufuli administration is already implementing free education reforms that have seen more pupils enrolled in primary and secondary schools and more higher learning students getting loans in time to reduce decades student-government tensions.
