*The Injured Tanzanian Opposition Leader Was Drunk-House Speaker

Machira Mabior, Nairobi

Hours after the leader of the opposition in the Tanzanian National Assembly, Freeman Mbowe, was injured at his home in Dodoma, the Speaker of the Assembly, revealed the secret behind the incident.

Mr. Mbowe who was rushed to a private hospital in Dodoma, is now in Dar es Salaam for further treatment following what is described as a foot ankle injury.

His party quickly met with the press to offer detailed but skewed account of what happened.

"A group of unknown assailants attacked the Chairman and they were telling him some words that indicates he was attacked because of his political activities," said the opposition party, Chadema, National Secretary,  John Myika.

Mr. Myika however refrained from detailing on who was together with the leader when the incident happened sometime in the midnight and he could not also explain where were Mr. Mbowe's personal Boardguards always seen with him in public events.

However, hours after the skewed Chadema statement, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Job Ndungai, who had visited Mbowe at the hospital told the Parliament that the leader of the opposition was taken to hospital between 2am and 9am past the midnight and it was not clear where he was around those late night hours.

"He was heavily drunk according to the doctors who received him initially," said the Speaker.

Hon. Speaker's statement comes amid more conspiracy theories popping up some alleging that Mr. Mbowe fall at his own home stairs due to heavy drinking habits and he was alone without his security guards.

Others point to politics within the party as it was just a day after two prominent figures within Chadema, Tundu Lissu and Peter Msigwa announces their bid for Union Presidency.

However, Chadema points blame to government organs for what they believe to be a politically charged incident.
